For The Culture

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Trap Museum in Atlanta, GA. What an opportunity! I won’t lie, like most people I was a little underwhelmed with the size, but like most people, I just assumed it was bigger based on all the online photos I’ve seen. It was the perfect size, and the perfect tribute to “the trap” and the way it has impacted hip hop culture. It was very well developed, put together, and very well executed. You can definitely tell that careful thought and attention to detail was put into every exhibit. From the kitchen with weed, baggies, bank roll, and scales on the table to the stylish artwork and paintings. TI and his team did a great job of building an authentic “trap house”. Just being there made me feel like I was in the trap lol.

The trap museum was the true embodiment of “for the culture”. A term that has often been thrown around with loosely based claims. The minute I walked in, I immediately felt the culture and how strong it influenced hip hop culture. Being surrounded by artwork and recreations of classic trap scenes really gave me an authentic feel for “the trap”. Another reason the museum was great was because it was for us by us. We as black people don’t have too much that is really ours. Something that is isn’t about slavery, or the struggle. Everything about the exhibits were so powerful. The collages of mixtape cover art took me back to coppin mix tapes back in the day. The Jeezy snowman exhibit took me back to where I was when I first heard “cant ban the snowman” Even the artwork dedicated to the new trap music artist like Migos and 21 savage had me ready to pop a bottle right there.

Everyone who is a fan of the culture should visit the trap museum. Just to embrace the culture and see something that is built for us. It will be an experience that you won’t regret. Being there will make you feel a whole new appreciation for our culture, our music, and the true impact our culture has on America. The Trap Museum is definitely for the culture.
